Kidney Stones (Renal Colic)
Urine's function is to eliminate water and micro-crystals that have come from natural wastes, and it circulates within narrow ducts (called ureters) only a hairsbreadth in diameter. If the urine flow should diminish due to dehydration (from excess heat or insufficient liquid), or if the quantity of waste material increases, these crystals may clump together to form a stone (a process called lithiasis). In 80 per cent of cases, this occurs in someone who nsumes a lot of milk and chocolate, and the stone is made of calcium oxalate, is small, fairly hard, and spiny like a spa urchin.
Symptoms of Kidney Stones
Kidney stones usually cause severe pain in their attempt to pass down the ureter on their way to the bladder. The pain is first felt in the side and thereafter in the groin and thighs. Other symptoms of kidney stones are a desire to urinate frequently, painful urination, scanty urination, nausea, vomiting, sweating, chills and shocks. The patient may also pass blood with the urine. Sometimes, large stones may remain in the kidneys without causing any trouble and these are known as silent stones.
Causes of Kidney Stones
Following are the major kidney stones causes:
Defects in the general metabolism
Insufficient intake of fluids
Improper diet
Excess intake of acid-forming foods
Herbel remedies for kidney stones
Eat a whole foods diet that contains leafy green vegetables, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and fish and poultry in small portions. Include foods that have a high ratio of magnesium to calcium such as brown rice, bananas, oats, barley, and soy, and that are high in fiber such as oat bran, psyllium seed husk, and flaxseed meal.
Avoid sugar (check ingredients for hidden sources of sugar), alcohol, antacids, excessive protein, dairy products (especially milk), salt, carbonated beverages, caffeine, and refined white flour products such as pasta, white bread, and baked goods.
You can also drink teas and juices if you'd like, because these are sources of liquid and liquid is the primary thing your body needs to keep your kidneys healthy. Try to avoid drinks with excess sugars though, because this can create a whole host of additional health problems which will eventually lead to creating kidney problems too.
If you drink caffeinated tea or coffee, you'll need to drink extra water. Caffeine can dehydrate your body, and if you're dehydrated you'll be more prone to developing kidney stones.
Grapes have an preeminent diuretic value on account of their high contents of water and potassium salt.
