Have you heard about herbs for arthritis? Although there is no natural or synthetic cure for arthritis, there are ways and means to help reduce the pain and swelling caused by arthritis. One way is to take some helpful herbs. Here are some of the possible herbs you may want to take.

Arthritis Herbs

Cayenne Cream - apply the cayenne cream to painful areas. Cayenne peppers contain an substance called capsaicin which is responsible for their spicy effect. This also causes a burning sensation when it comes in contact with skin, and inhibits the body’s production of substance P which is heavily involved the relaying signals of pain to the brain. Apply the cream two to three times per day for at least one week before making a decision as to whether or not the cream is helping to reduce arthritis pain.

Alfalfa is commonly used for arthritic treatment, because the tea remedy is effective when taken for two to three weeks with a seven to ten day break between consumption.

Angelica is another arthritis treatment because it contains anti-inflammatory constituents and muscle relaxants as well as natural pain-relievers.  This herb is used in a tea concoction as well, with the same frequency and breaks as the alfalfa remedy.

Chickweed can be crushed and applied to an area afflicted with arthritis. It is thought to give mild relief. It is also used as a source of Vitamin C.

Horseradish, like Cayenne, is used topically to relieve rheumatism and arthritis. It is thought to stimulate the blood flow to the affected area. Do not take large amounts at once. It can cause stomach and kidney irritation.

Sassafras used in a hot infusion is thought to purify blood. Therefore, it is suggested as a remedy for arthritis, rheumatism, and gout. One cup a day is recommended. Do not take if pregnant.

Celery- This is another common food option that can be used for arthritis. Its use dates back a few centuries ago in Europe. Celery contains potassium and a number of anti-inflammatory compounds. Tea from celery seeds or celery eaten raw can provide good remedy for arthritis.

Red Pepper- Lists of herbs for arthritis can’t do without cayenne or red pepper. Nearly everyone knows that red pepper is a good pain reliever even for those who suffer from pain not associated with arthritis. The substance in cayenne that is popularly known to relieve pain is capsaicin. This substance blocks the perception of pain and facilitates the release of more endorphins or the body’s own natural pain relievers. Cayenne also has salicylate which is an ingredient in aspirin.

Nettle
The is the herb we referred to earlier and is another one of those ?universal? plants. They are found all over the world andthey strengthen the entire body. Rheumatism, arthritis, eczema, nosebleeds, arteries, lessen blood pressure are just a fewapplications. Nettles contain calcium, chlorine, iron, potassium, silicon, sodium and sulphur.

Saffron
A natural hydrochloric acid (utilizes sugar of fruits and oils), thus helping arthritics get rid of the uric acid which holds thecalcium deposited in the joints. Also reduces lactic acid build up. Good for measles, skin, scarlet fever and perspiration.
